Wheel:bit

Wheel:bit – The micro:bit multi-purpose car

Wheel:bit is an affordable, multi-purpose, 3-wheeled car that can be turned into a drawing machine or a football-playing robot. Wheel:bit can run autonomously, or become remote-controlled by another micro:bit. Use craftsmanship, and convert the vehicle into a dinosaur or a custom rod.

A 3-wheeler that can be anything from a drawing robot to a base for your own custom road runner or rat rod.

You learn:

Build the car from scratch, learn coding, geometry and sensors. Radio control, physics, acceleration and design.

Code using MakeCode Blocks, Javascript or Python or download a ready-made program.

Hover:bit V2

Hover:bit V2 - The micro:bit hovercraft

Hover:bit, the fast and most enjoyable learning experience.

Hover:bit is a STEAM-based building kit that combines hands-on skills, science, and coding. With sustainably designed recycled cardboard, you can even design your very own vehicle. Powerful drone motors create an air cushion that propels the hovercraft forward at speeds of up to 30 km/h! Class sets come with instructions that allow students to use cardboard and other materials to design and construct their own remote-controlled vehicles.

FAQ

Hover:bit V1 was very costly to produce because it used the same expensive drone controller as the Air:bit V1. V2 now gives you the option between a much more affordable stand-alone package or an even cheaper add-on package if you already have WonderKit Start Pack.

Hover:bit V2 uses the packaging for some main parts as well as natural birch plywood. Students can also use recycled cardboard to design their own crafts, using the stencils that’s included in the WonderKit version of Hover:bit.

Hover:bit is made from the highest quality, airplane grade birch plywood and will take a lot of beating. It is also fully repairable as all parts can be replaced easily.

Hover:bit is meant for dry, even surfaces like short carpet floors, concrete or asphalt. However, you can convert it into a boat or even a snow sledge to drift on frozen lakes.

Learn more about the projects here: https://www.makekit.no/hoverbit-docs

No, but it can actually drive upside down! You need a ceiling where the surface is smooth and even. All you need to do is swap the propeller for a reverse one and set a higher power on the cushion motor.

Air:bit

Air:bit V2 The micro:bit drone
The micro:bit drone got even better!

Air:bit V2: world’s first and leading micro:bit drone. Air:bit combines the strengths and simplicity of the micro:bit with the excitement of building and flying a drone.

This is an advanced STEAM-based construction kit that engages students in hands-on and creative learning. The drone is equally suitable for home, school, or coding clubs and libraries. Additionally, it is fully repairable and made from sustainable materials.

FAQ

Better control and modification: Air:bit V2 has a totally new control board that lets you change all the code and algorithms including PID and sensor fusion. V1 had a secondary processor that was very hard to configure or program.

Faster charger: Air:bit V2 charges twice as fast (less than 1 hour)

Versatile: The included WonderKit control board is so versatile it can be turned into a hovercraft, robot or even a self-balancing 2-wheel robot. It is now much easier to add i2c-compatible sensors thanks to the new i2c plugin by Bill Siever.

Lower price: We dropped the extra processor, this reduces production costs.

About 7 minutes. But most people will not be flying without landing and re-aligning the drone, so the “playtime” is much longer.

Air:bit V2 is first and foremost a manually operated drone that will help practice motoric skills by the pilot. Kids with “gaming hands” will often grasp the controller intuitively while others will need some practice. Another micro:bit acts as a remote controller, using the motion sensor (accelerometer) on the micro:bit will give a precise control of the drone’s pitch and roll motion. Alternatively, an iOS or android device can act as a remote over Bluetooth.

Guides and teaching material can be found here: https://www.makekit.no/docs/airbit-docs/ If you miss anything, please contact us as support@makekit.no

Air:bit V2 needs manual control by a pilot while flying, but we are working on a positioning system that will allow multiple drones to be flown in formations.

You can download 3d-files and print more frames, design your own layout, or make a glove controller. (see https://www.makekit.no/airbit-docs)

You can also use the parts, including  motors, controller board and battery to make a fan-powered boat, sledge or hovercraft. With the external ports you can connect external sensors like lidar, sonar or a small servo.

MakeCode blocks, javascript, makecode Python or Micropython. There is currently no library for the Micropython language.

Snow:bit

Lightning fast, propeller -driven snow-racer!

Learn how to bend skis with steam like they did it the «old way», just as traditional wooden skis are made.

Snow: Bit uses both motors to push the air backwards. This allows for speeds up to 40 km/h!

You can also test out different types of ski wax to see what gives the best slip.

The kit can be used with or without the accompanying skis. For use on ice, the skis can be dropped while the dairy is retained as skids.

Note that Snow: Bit works best on flat/hard surfaces.

Snow:bit also comes as an add-on to the Hover:bit, reusing the motors, propellers and controller board.

MD2

complete with radio and charger

The classic, Norwegian -developed drone building set – since 2015

Powerful and very light drone in aircraft veneer with about 13 minutes of flight time. Complete set with radio and charger.

Suitable for schools and businesses

The kit is recommended as a technical introduction to the construction and operation of quadcopters and to provide hands-on experience of flying such a drone. Therefore, the kit should be suitable as a starter kit used in subjects such as Technology in Practice (middle school) and Technology and Research Studies (high school).

Kolibri

Hummingbird - drone building kit with camera

This drone provides a basic experience with the quadcopter’s behaviour and allows you to stream the image from the camera straight to your mobile! The drone is repairable (repairware), and all spare parts can be found in the online store.

The built-in barometer keeps the height automatically, making the flight much more straightforward. You can use the «WiFi UFO» app, a free app for Android and iOS. The mobile can be mounted directly on the remote control.

The remote control has three different rates (speeds), flip button and headfree mode, and the possibility of trimming and calibration, which causes the drone to fly incredibly stable.

Together with the user and teacher guide, this is a perfect two-hour concept for instant in technology classes in practice.

About MakeKit

MakeKit AS is a Norwegian company founded in March 2019 by Henning Pedersen and Steinar Holøs. We make DIY kits that make technology accessible and easier to understand through engaging and cross-curriculum problem-based STE(A)M learning.

Technology is all around us and becomes increasingly important,  but also less accessible and harder to understand. Technology becomes smaller and less accessible. The understanding of technology is the skills and knowledge of the 21. century.

In MakeKit we make these skills accessible in an engaging and relevant package.

We make students achieve in STE(A)M subjects, get technological self-confidence and the sense of achievement.

All our kits are maker friendly, which means students can use both traditional tools and modern tools like 3D-printers and laser cutters to design their own constructions and test different hypothesis and do physics experiments.

They use micro:bit and the makecode platform which are defined as «high roof, low ceiling». Easy to start with, and you can do pretty advanced stuff.

About WonderKit:

All MakeKits micro:bit products are compatible with the WonderKit system. This means that more products share the same parts, and can be bundled for a lower price.

A system of maker friendly micro:bit accessories. All kits are repairable, made from environmental materials and are made for creative exploration. Whether you have access to a modern maker-space with 3D-printers and laser cutters, or more traditional tools like saws, knife and scissors Wonder:Kit lets you build and change the construction of multiple kits.

The kits let students achieve in STE(A)M subjects, get technological self-confidence and the sense of achievement
